I'd very much like to see Solaris avoid the mutually-exclusive
dependency horror show I saw with apt on Debian ... shortly before I
switched away. I realize the existing system doesn't support what
*everyone* wants to do, but in adding new features, we do have to be
careful to avoid wrecking existing simplicity.
It is precisely because of that that I wrote eariler that I still have to
churn on this and think it through.
When I go and implement something, you can be pretty certain it will be
implemented such that it's backward and forward compatible, or else it won't
get implemented at all. That's priority number one, and if I'm unable to
extend pkgadd and friends in such a fashion, then the whole thing won't get
released, period.
Basically, any changes in revision/dependency checking behavior will be
optional, meaning things will continue functioning as they do now.
