I already did, perhaps you missed it? Did you read my story about Steve
wanting to have MacOS boot five seconds faster?
What I'm saying is that if Sun Studio 10/11 toolchain had been ported to
other platform(s) instead of massaging Solaris source code to compile with
GCC, we could have faster binaries on those plus Solaris, and the faster
binaries would, in the long run, return much bigger gains than what had been
done.
One might ask gains for whom, I say gains for everyone.
I'm sure, the POLARIS community appreciates any help, that might
accellerate things.

Where does the subString "Open" come from, in "OpenSolaris?
"Open" means open standards, not necessarily open source. In OpenSolaris'
case, it might mean open source or even both, but I don't feel qualified to
make that statement.
But Sun Studio isn't OpenSolaris, nor are those tools a part thereof, so I
don't see why those would have to be open source.
And frankly, I couldn't care less, so long as those were available for
whichever platform I needed them to be. What am I going to do, modify the
compilers? Yeah right.
Whoever has the skills and the knowledge to modify them, give them the code.
I just need functionality and don't want to be bothered with the innards of
it. In that particular scenario, I am just a user that wants the
functionality and performance and doesn't care what happens behind the
scenes. So long as I get high- or better-performing binaries than with that
GCC c**p, I'm happy go lucky!

Actually, it should be the X-mas tree expert or experts that should fix
this, not somebody else fixing what they screwed up (and screw up they did,
royally, if what you say is true).
