There is a GUI tool to install printer in Solaris.  Go to (assuming your are 
using GNOME):

Preferences --> Add/Remove Printer --> Printer --> New Attached Printer

If your printer uses USB port, select /dev/printers/1 as the printer port.  You 
can select HP PhotoSmart either 7350 or 7550 (they are of the same driver 
anyway).

Regarding scanner, I have not had a chance to play with one, but would 
appreciate if anyone could volunteer the info.
