Just thought I'd give my 2 cents on the topic of project proposal
acceptability...

Per governance policy (as stevel pointed out) a project space on
opensolaris.org is really easy to get. (In the spirit of "innovation often
happens elsewhere" is the way I like to think it came about.) Therefore we
could potentially have projects that fall way outside the conventional
opensolaris.org project profile. I think that's good. It means, for
example, an idea can use a project space as an aid to help it incubate. It
also allows us to shoot for having not just the #1 SunOS-UNIX community but
the the #1 operating systems community. We often hear that the "no-limits"
atmosphere in Solaris engineering is why some of the world's best operating
systems engineers choose to work there. Similarly, if we promote unfettered
project generation on opensolaris.org, although there's some potential
downside, I think the upside potential is huge.

So in my opinion, this project proposal, and getting more like it, is
desirable.
