Having done this before, the packages on Solaris can be very broad. You will find that using the pkgrm method from SUNWCrnet, you will find the reductions in space used is not a great as you hoped. If you really want to strip Solaris down, and keep the ability to pkgrm/pkgadd, is to build your own packages.
