I know I missed a few in terms of your list (don't recall how to navigate to hg 
and svn info, for
example), and just finding everything on your list and
putting it together certainly isn't as easy as it should be.  But most of the 
info is probably
out there...somewhere.

If a developer quick start guide such as you describe existed, and I was using 
it, I think I'd want it
in a frame, with references (including a glossary) on the left, and links to 
more detailed info
inline as they came up (and probably some duplicates between the two).  And I 
think I'd want
the links set up to open in a new window by default, so that I could drill down 
for detail while
still not losing my place in the top-level list.  But maybe that's just me; 
some people may find
that to be annoying or distracting.

Once there was such a page, I think it might be appropriate as a seventh 
graphically bulleted item
on the top page, although reducing the size of the big open(2) graphic to about 
half hight/width
might be good, to make more room.
