That's not a problem, nor is it an error.

You could, but you shouldn't have to. If you're installing the software 
centrally, for example on an NFS server, then you should design the directory 
structure intelligently, so that it supports many different UNIX flavors and 
their corresponding architectures. Not exactly a trivial task, but it's the 
clean thing to do.
