Peter Memishian questioned [5] whether copyright statements should be added to
modified code, pointing out that it was already bad enough that configuration
files had a 25 line license block. Stephen Hahn followed up [6] to say that he
had asked legal for a shorter license block for this purpose. Garrett D'Amore
questioned [7] whether or not these files should simply be part of the public
domain, with James Carlsson following up [8] that this had been discussed
previously with little support. Stephen posted [9] the shorter block, while John
Zolnowsky questioned [10] whether there was any requirement for a build to
retain the CDDL block for configuration files, just like compilation loses
copyright.
