I am using Solaris 10 and i am not a super user. How do i know which
filesytem ,i am using. and can i use ZFS filesystem locally. I mean
in case my admin is not using that can i test it locally.

One way to do it is with "df" -- look at the "Filesystem" column.
Here's UFS:

% df -k .
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
/dev/dsk/c0d0s0 4671462 3951475 673273 86% /

and here's ZFS:

% df -k .
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
pool/home/carlsonj 231211008 2670851 116068852 3% /home/carlsonj

You can also use df -g .

Doug

-bash-3.00# df -g .
/ (/dev/dsk/c2d0s0 ): 8192 block size 1024 frag size 20171842 total blocks 6415190 free blocks 6213472 available 1217216 total files 940689 free files 26738688 filesys id *ufs fstype* 0x00000004 flag 255 filename length
