HI Randy,

 There is a GUI that does all the lpadmin thing, it is /usr/sbin/printmgr.
You can use this is to add to add a new print queue,

Printer->New Attached Printer ...
-select Make
-select model etc.
The printer ports for your local printer should be /dev/printers/[N]

since you are well versed with lpadmin, there is a option
Print Manager->Show command line console
which shows the actual command runs behind the GUI>

Ok, I admit it. I'm even more stupid than I'd first computed...... I've been
a Solaris user since
Sun made version 7 affordable. I've since retired the SPARCs and am running a
4-core Opteron
system.... have made it through the SCSI debacle only to discover that not only
can I not make the system print a thing neither by setting up a printer
manually with the familiar lpadmin methods, nor with the 'printmgr' GUI
interface. Studying the system logs however reveals even a much more
horrifying thing in that it would seem that despite the fact that I have
disabled sendmail, the logs indicate that my machine is trying to contact
Yahoo.com as follows.......

Mar  5 20:37:45 arabian sendmail[21643]: [ID 801593 mail.info] l262bjtE021643: f
rom=lp, size=670, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]
g.g.ysm.yahoo.com>, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

There are literally hundreds of these messages or messages similar to it in
/var/log/syslog since I've tried to configure a printer using printmgr and
submit a simple print job.

But to further frustrate and confuse me.... the printer port (/dev/lp1... which
I've become accustomed to using as the printer port on this machine) looks like
this......

# ls -al /dev/lp1
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root          29 Feb  6 21:53 /dev/lp1 ->
../devices/isa/[EMAIL PROTECTED],378:ecpp0

Which is what I would expect to see, except that:

# cd /devices/isa
# ls
[EMAIL PROTECTED],2f8       [EMAIL PROTECTED],2f8:b,cu  [EMAIL PROTECTED],3f8:a
    [EMAIL PROTECTED],3f0
[EMAIL PROTECTED],2f8:b     [EMAIL PROTECTED],3f8       [EMAIL
PROTECTED],3f8:a,cu  [EMAIL PROTECTED],60

Looks like there's no printer port.

System board is a Tyan S2885.
Graphics card is an AGP-based NVidia 6800GT
SCSI adapter is a new LSILogic LSI20320-R (Scanner works again!!! YIPPEE!!!!)
2 AMD Opteron 265 CPUs
2GB worth of registered Corsair Memory modules PS2-connected keyboard and mouse

Lost ....... can someone help? Just wanna be able to print LOL!
Everything else finally
works!

Thanks in advance! ( MANY MANY thanks! )
