But to find the device name(s) for your system's optical device(s) you now have to do something like:- opendir("/dev/rdsk"), readdir, look for c#t#d#s2 devices - open every c#t#d#s2 device, try DKIOCINFO ioctl, filter those that report a dki_ctype == DKC_CDROM Or use whatever API is available with dbus / hal to get the list of devices detected by hald, and scan that list for optical devices.
