As I understand OpenSolaris is based on the next (under development) v ersion of Solaris (11). Doesn't SUN intend to make the source code of the official releases availa ble?
No. Opensourcing software is a long and arduous process in which at times changed need to be made to specific bits of the software. Solaris is opensource piecemeal; and, because changes may be needed, it only makes sense to open the current source code. Besides, what is Solaris 10? Is it the initial release 03/05 or the current, 11/06? There are a lot of similarities (most lines are probably the same) between the two releases.
