Solaris does not use partitions. Rather, it uses slices inside of a BIOS 
partition on i86pc, and just slices on sparc. This a very important distinction 
to understand.

Flash(TM) archives are files based, and have nothing whatsoever to do with 
slices. You do not need the -R switch, unless You are creating a Flash(TM) 
archive of a diskless or an AutoClient.

What You most likely are looking for is Flash(TM) archives coupled with 
JumpStart(TM). JumpStart(TM) will slice the disk up for You according to the 
JumpStart(TM) profile and rules.ok file which You specify.

If You really want to make images at any cost, dd if=/dev/dsk/c#t#d#s2 onto 
another disk as a file, or pass the results to tape. However, I don't know what 
could happen if you try to restore that image on a disk that is not the same as 
the disk that the image has been created from.
