Since GNOME is a GNU project, I was under the
impression that the GNOME libraries were highly
dependent on gcc and glibc extensions/behaviour.

Yeah, I guess a GPL desktop environment is tough.
However, Open Solaris needs more mindshare. Adding KDE
will at the very least only help in that regard. It is
just as well that something is getting started on that
front.

I have this acqaintance who got put off by GNOME on
Nexenta and who asked me whether there was some other
desktop available. Maybe nevada + CDE might change his
mind :D
