There is also a tool in the Sun explorer:
 ls -al /opt/SUNWexplo/bin/diskinfo.*
-r-xr-xr-x 1 root bin 36516 Apr 19 2006
/opt/SUNWexplo/bin/diskinfo.i386
-r-xr-xr-x 1 root bin 37064 Apr 19 2006
/opt/SUNWexplo/bin/diskinfo.sparc

here is the output:
AVAILABLE SCSI DEVICES:

Location Vendor Product Rev Serial #

    c0t0d0 TEAC CD-224E 19A TEAC

Re: R: [sysadmin-discuss] How to get disk parameters?

Hi Alf,
Thanks for the information. But on my thumper box, iostat is not
showing Serial No:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /]$ iostat -E sd45
sd45 Soft Errors: 37 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0
Vendor: ATA Product: HITACHI HDS7250S Revision: A20A Serial No:
Size: 500.11GB <500107862016 bytes>
Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0
Illegal Request: 37 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0

It is showing the device ID though:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /]$ iostat -Ei sd45
sd45 Soft Errors: 37 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0
Vendor: ATA Product: HITACHI HDS7250S Revision: A20A Device Id:
id1,[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Size: 500.11GB <500107862016 bytes>
Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0
Illegal Request: 37 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0

How can I be sure that same disk is being used when thumper is booted
in Linux.? On Linux "hdparm -I" will show the serial no.

Regards,
_Atul
