I installed Firefox using Blastwave ("pkg-get -i firefox") and it broke the Java Desktop System. When I try to log in now, I get the initial JDS splash screen for a few seconds, and then it goes immediately back to the login screen. CDE works fine. I noticed that when Firefox was installing, it installed a bunch of Gnome components--could that have caused this? How do I get JDS back?
In theory and in practice JDS never went away. Nothing from Blastwave will install into the /usr area and everything from Blastwave will install into /opt/csw and be fully separated from the vendor supplied operating system bits. Quite frankly, any add on piece of software *should* be under /opt/foo and not under /usr but thats another blood bath battle not worth fighting anymore. So the real question is .. what version of Solaris are you running? Production Solaris land is where Firefox works fine. So then .. what rev are you running ?
