I tried, and it somewhat worked.

Initially it popped up dialog boxes asking for my wep key and did configure my
interface.

I then tried to unplug and plug again the card, but it did not like that. The
LEDs on the card
stayed dark and the network connection was lost. I experimented with manual
wificonfig
and ifconfig and got the OS to hang badly, 100% cpu consumption and even the
mouse became
.....v.e.r.y......s.l.o.w.... had to powercycle.

Tried to boot w/o the card, then plug the card, waited a while, but it didn't
seem to recognize
the card was plugged.

Rebooted again while the card was plugged, this time the card was not
initialized well.
wificonfig reported "connected" but profile "none", and the IP remained
0.0.0.0. A manual "ifconfig ath0 dhcp" only timed out. Then I did a
"wificonfig -i ath0 connect home", and a little while
later a dialog popped up announcing it was configured.

I'm not too sure whether I caused it to configure by my manual intervention, or
whether
the nwamd is really slow.

Thanks for your help anyways. I'm generally amazed by the responsiveness and
proficiency in this forum.
