We are all trying to figure out what exactly you had in mind when you said:

"Sun wants to embrace some Linux elements so "we make Solaris a better
Linux than Linux""

and

"It's too unfamiliar. There's a gulf ... We need to make it familiar
to people who know Linux inside and out."

"As we make Solaris more familiar to Linux users, we don't (want to)
lose what makes it more compelling and competitive,"

I am prone to think that you are referring to building a Linux house,
with Solaris plumbing, a Solaris frame, and a Solaris foundation. To
the person living in the house, they are living in a Linux house, but
everything just seems to work better and faster.

Could you share with the development community, what you have in mind?
