Actually it gets much worse. There is no "sh" on Linux. It is bash. When I want
to write a portable script that works correctly on Solaris and Linux, I get
stuck because even if I ask for sh, I get bash, which is not completely upwards
compatible (especially for background job control). I end up requesting ksh
because I don't get something else when I ask for it.

The message got warped on both sides of the fence, so it seems. The linux users
thread I've been watching has taken the position that if Solaris wants to be
more Linux like, they should jettison Solaris and just make their own Linux
distro. Then they went on bashing Solaris because of the Motif windows (ala
CDE).

So, this message was taken badly by pretty much everybody. Personally, I like
where OpenSolaris was heading, but it just can't get there fast enough (IMHO)
to satisfy anyone.

Education is truely the key, but it won't help if it falls on deaf ears.
