When I have to specify what goes in a patch, I have a binary choice
- will anyone out there need to reboot after installing this patch?
If so, the flag gets set and the line appears in the README.

AFAIK, there's no way to simultaneously replace multiple files atomically,
which means there's no way to have a totally clean cutover in case for
example libs have private interfaces between one another, or a lib
has a set of run-time-loaded plugins, or the like).  And that's just a
simple example.

That's actually one of the problems they're currently working on solving
for Solaris 10.    The current design involves more lofs-mounts of individual
files, ala the libc mounts on x86.
