I know you all are having fun bashing gtar, but gtar has *NEVER* let
me down in over ten years. I started using it when I discovered
Solaris tar didn't support sparse files. (Not that I need sparse file
support that often).

So, there is a saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". There are
plenty of broken things that do need fixing however..

The point is, star is faster, star is portable, star has more functionality.

gtar has never "let me down" either.

But, maybe I don't like accepting the status quo ;)

I have never "bashed" gnu tar, so please don't lump me in the rest of the group.

I simply said "if I had a choice..."
