Hi Peter, I would say that your way to OpenSolaris consists from following steps: a) Install SXCE b) Make yourself familiar with the Solaris commands and Solaris way of doing things - as there are some differences to GNU/Linux - c) Learn about the services framework SMF - because you have to control the hosted apps - d) Learn about zones - as you want to bring various accounts to one machine -
To a) there is a very good docu on Blastwave: http://www.blastwave.org/docs/s10u3_howto.html For b) you find in the docs community very easy guides http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/documentation/ For c) you can read this PDF (also from the docs community) http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/smf-doc/smf-dev/smf-book.pdf For d) watch this video http://www.posix.brte.com.br/blog/index.php?page_id=30 Oh, and SXCE you can download here: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/downloads/sol_ex_cd Maybe you want to start learning Solaris without installing, then download and have fun with Belenix (0.6) - an OpenSolaris live cd - http://www.genunix.org/distributions/belenix_site/?q=download have fun :) This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
