Playing devils advocate; wouldn't the huge number of distributions be an
example of a significant weakness in Linux - if people find the need to
constantly create something new, there is obviously some fundamental
issue in terms of development which the other distributions are lacking.

If Solaris doesn't have the huge number, wouldn't it be true to suggest
that maybe because the current distribution is actually already meeting
the needs of its members.
