This all depends on what you mean by a desktop. Everyone needs a
desktop, but what that desktop looks like and where it is generated
and administrated may be be different. Is the browser in the desktop
or the other way around? Is the desktop generated on my local system
or on a server? Is the desktop controlled by me or a paid admin?
Does the desktop use the standard metaphors or something new or
augmented or minimized? The right answers to these questions depend
on your individual needs and to pretend that there is a one size
fits all solution today is to bury your head in the sand.
