Let me clarify:

- just because I run my applications via a web browser *does not* mean I have
to run them from the internet, nor does it mean all my data *must* reside
somewhere on the internet
- just because something is a server *does not* mean it has to be on the
internet
- just because a server is in my living room *does not* mean it can't or
shouldn't be able to run other web applications off of the internet

- people actually do put their lives and private / confidential data online
today: look at how much personal information is revealed in blogs, photos on
flickr, youtube.

So does the majority care? Obviously, no, they don't have a problem with it, or
else they wouldn't do it.

For non-confidential data, web apps off of the internet would allow people to
share that data with others.

For confidential data, there's that set-top appliance silently humming away
above the TV, with encrypted ZFS in there somewhere.

Why can't there be a breed of both? Why must it be one or the other?

And, in such a computing model, do I require a desktop any longer? No, I don't.
