Not only do we need to wean them off of Windows, we need to wean them off of the "personal computer" - aka "PC" computing model. This needs to be dealt with at the cause. Everyone trying to dance to Microsoft's PC waltz has tough luck - people will still be illiterate and adoption rates will be low. If they knew and understood more about Informatics, then it wouldn't be so tough to get them to use a superior / easier / cheaper technology. It's not completely without merit to want to educate the general public in Informatics. Take an average contemporary teenager: where would s/he be today if they didn't know how to use a computer? How will they get a job, even in a non-computer related field? Computers are everywhere, and they will not go away.
