I find it funny that you use T2000 and commodity hardware in the same sentence. T2000 is anything but commodity hardware, and a T2000 is certainly overpriced and not cheap - at $9,995.00 USD [store.sun.com] starting price and exotic CPU and hardware, it's anything but cheap or commodity. I've spent considerable time porting a C/C++ product and trying to tune it to the UltraSPARC T1 processor, and that thing is so exotic in comparison to the CPUs out there (more will follow, but just not yet), that one is mostly at a loss. That thing is anything but commodity hardware, in every way imaginable.
