One could argue that a paying customer doesn't use Solaris for that very
reason.

Its like waiting for the customer and the customer won't move till that
issue is addressed; chicken before the egg.

I can understand the reluctance by Sun to fund pie-in-the-sky ideas that
don't go anywhere but I'm talking about basic fundamental components of
an operating system which are key to interoperability.
