Hello,

I would like to propose an OpenSolaris project RDMA
(Remote Direct Memory access) offload framework to
support iWARP (Internet Wide Area RDMA Protocols).

The RDMA Offload Framework (ROF) will provide Solaris support
for offloaded iWARP (set of protocols/programming models
which put RDMA on IP/Ethernet) implementations.

RDMA is a zero copy performance technology with asynchronous
processing model. RDMA is supported on different interconnects
like InfiniBand, iWarp, Virtual Interface Architecture, etc.

This project will provide two sets of interfaces
1) for ULP's (Upper Level Protocols) such as SDP (Socket Direct
protocol), RDS (Reliable Datagram Sockets), iSER (ISCSI
Extensions for RDMA), uDAPL (user Direct Access Programming
language, used by MPI (Message Passing Interface)) etc.

2) for RNIC's hardware adapters (RDMA enabled Network Interface Cards)
    and for Software RNIC

All major software and hardware server vendors are working to
provide iWarp Products. The Open Source project named
OpenFabrics is adding support for Linux and most of the
server and RNIC vendors are participating in that project.
Microsoft is adding support for RDMA in Windows Compute cluster
server (CCS).
