Yep, the contributions from the Intel OpenSolaris project are very cool:

From what I hear, the project seems to be moving along quite well, too.
I understand that Intel has a bunch of engineers in Shanghai, so I hope
to meet them when I go there for Tech Days next month.

The ink is probably not even dry on the IBM deal. It's been, what, three
weeks now? Give it a bit more time. The engineers I've talked to from
IBM have all been quite genuine.

Check out the conference call:

Sun's John Fowler lists a bunch of things that have resulted from the
previous Sun-MS arrangements. Hopefully, in the future, that list will
include more Solaris content.

Well, we'll see in the future, eh?

I don't know jack about that. Sorry.

I guess my point was that Sun was famous for doing all sorts of "stunt"
marketing in the past, or more accurately stunt "PR" I guess. Whatever.
But lately we seem to be interested in cutting deals now based on
business, rather than headlines (yet we still generate an amazing amount
of press in the process). So, I see this as a critical shift that will
help the OpenSolaris community significantly. The community is growing
organically -- that's very clear -- but there is real opportunity for
more corporate help to fund growth as well. I view these deals as just
that. I also view all this as an validation of our success. These things
would not be happening had we failed. This project is wildly successful
-- far more than most people in the community realize.
