I like this board because it supports AMD's new quad-core Barcelona CPUs
with split-power plane while having 2 PCIe x8 and 8 on-board SAS ports
(going through a built-in PCIe x8) - that means I can pick up two LSI
SAS3081E-R HBAs for a total of 24 SAS ports (over 3 PCIe x8) to run ZFS
on  :)

But I can't verify if the board will work with OpenSolaris! - its too
new to show up in the HCL...

 From its data sheet, the board has the following chips on it:

    * nVidia nForce 3600
    * NEC uPD720400
    * LSI SAS1068E
    * Marvell 88E1121
    * ATI ES1000 Graphics
    * SMSC DME5017
    * AMI BIOS

I figure it will work if I can find each of those chips - true?

 From the HCL, these are the other Tyan boards that are known to work:

    S4985: has no chips in common
    S3992: has ATI ES1000 Graphics and AMI BIOS
    S2865: has no chips in common
    S2877: has no chips in common
    S2881: has no chips in common

Any ideas how I can fill in the blanks? - I tried searching HCL on the
chips, but didn't get any hits...

Focusing on the nForce 3600, I googled for: solaris "nForce 3600"
and got two-pages of hits in languages I don't understand except for
this (http://marc.info/?l=opensolaris-discuss&m=118341595901373&w=2),
which suggests that the Ultra 40 workstation has it, though I can't
verify that since its motherboard information isn't posted on the Sun
website

Any advise?

Thanks,
Kent
