"Proposition 1" (P1)

   Schillix, Martux,Belenix and NexentaOS are obviously not going to be
   Sun Solaris 11.

"Proposition 2" (P2)

   SXCE (and SXDE) are going to be Sun Solaris 11 eventually, or at least
   their aim is to provide an unstable testing bed for Solaris 11

   Note: The C stands for "Community".

"Proposition 3" (P3)

   Somehow Indiana became THE one and only (?) OpenSolaris community
   distribution.

Let's do some propositional logic:

--
Let's assume P1 is correct

* (P1 && P2) is true
* (P1 && P3) is true
--

--
Let's assume P2 is correct AND P3 is correct

* (P1 && P3) is false

If there is only ONE community OpenSolaris edition, then SXCE can't
possibly be it, if P3 is true.
--

Now let's make some wild statements:

--

"Sun Microsystems will base their distribution on SXCE." (S1)

* (P2 && S1) is true

But this means that:

* (P3 && S1) is false

...and Solaris 11 (i.e. the one you can pay for that is the REAL Unix
(tm) Solaris) won't be based on the Indiana (community) distribution.

"Sun Microssystems will base their distribution on Indiana." (S2)

* (P2 && S2) is false
* (P2 && S3) is true

But WHAT is SXCE then - just a "name"?

...

When I joined the OpenSolaris community I quickly learned and understood
what Schillix, Belenix, NexentaOS, SXCE and then SXDE were, and what
Solaris 11 would come from.

But with the arrival of Indiana, I've become confused about:

* SXCE
* SCDE
* Solaris 11

My goal is to participate in the community part of helping to develop
Solaris 11 - but I think the community took a turn and I missed it.

DSL

(PS: This isn't a rant AGAINST any of the distributions including
Indiana. I think that Ian Murdock's explanation of its purpose is quite
good.

It's just me trying to express my confusion as I think I've missed
something.)
