< Hi All,

< As I mentioned at the OpenSolaris Developer conference, I've been working
with a couple of
< laptop ODMs to try and find a laptop for OpenSolaris vs the other way round.
Trying to get Solaris
< installed with drivers missing.

< Thanks

Thanks for the exciting news. I know Asus C90S, which is advertised as a
"white (upgradble)" laptop, should have a customizable compatibility with
Solaris, but I never thought the ECS P55xx would work so well (especially wrt
webcam, WiFi, cardreader, audio, etc.) This is indeed a very exciting news.
Thanks for a great job!

I am sure many here are aware that Asus is coming out with a series of low-cost
Eee PCs which have Xandros Linux (successor to Corel Linux) pre-installed.
From our own experience, pre-installing Linux on PCs (desktops and/or laptops)
is easy, but providing service and update maintenance can be a nightmare.
Neither Asus nor Xandros is capable of providing acceptable and affordable
services. (However, pre-installation of Solaris can be a different story, and
Sun's name can represent an attractive proposition to ODMers--just keep on
dreaming.)

Not too long ago, Dell began selling Ubuntu-preinstalled desktop PCs. Many in
the Linux community are puzzled as to why a Linux Dell PC is more expensive
than a PC pre-installed with Microsoft Windows. Isn't is true that Linux is
free but Windows license costs $$$?

The problem is, makers of Windows PCs can sell desktop space to offset or even
surpass Windows licensing cost; whereas, who is willing to pay for desktop
space of a Linux desktop/notebook & further risk its reputation? I believe
many here will instantly think the billion-dollar question: Will a
search-engine company such as Yahoo be interested in buying desktop space on a
Sun/Solaris PC? I think so. How about competitors to YouTube, FaceBook, etc.?
And American Express? Travel Agencies? The list can go on and on, and the
answers should be the repetitive yes, yes, yes, . . .

Isn't it nice to dream big? ;-) But anyway, if you can use an extra hand,
please do not hesitate to let me know.
