The problem is that these databases are wrong in many cases and that
the progrmas that use them in many cases don't use them correctly.
Doing things right in the database may cause a program to fail.

Terminfo is bynary and is not binary compatible between Solaris and HP-UX.
This is a strong reason for me to avoid terminfo whereever possible.
Termcap is a text file and a modern termcap implementation has the advantage
that you may have a .termap file in your home directory that really works on 
every platform and just overwrites the terminal entries you usually like to 
correct.
