Finally it worked. I have booted off the compiled kernel after all. The thing
that worked was a fresh 'make install' on workspace/usr/src directory instead
of the numerous 'make all' s that I had been trying.

I successfully chose the correct kernel from the GRUB menu and the system
booted off without any problems. I'm not sure if it is the keyboard driver or
terminal driver but one of it is repeating key strokes once in a while.

The ethernet driver also doesn't seem to be working. I compiled the sources
from 10/22/2007 ??

Being new to solaris I would like to know if there is a way to confirm if I
have booted off the right kernel. Although the problems mentioned above confirm
that much, I am just curious, this is why: -

The new kernel is in /platform/kernel.foo/unix and
/platform/kernel.foo/amd64/unix

The old one is in /platform/kernel/unix and /platform/kernel/amd64/unix.

However when I do an ls -l on
/boot/platform/i86pc/kernel/unix ,
I find that it is the same as
/platform/kernel/unix

I was hoping that this file would have been replaced with the kernel in
/platform/kernel.foo/unix.

If not so please let me know how else to verify that a particular kernel chosen
through GRUB has been loaded.

Thanks and regards.
Bhaskar.
