Totally understand. > In retrospect, I should have titled my original posting "Middle > management at Sun allegedly destroys OpenDS? What about OpenSolaris?" Thanks. FWIW I went ballistic internally when I first heard about this. What swung the change for me was seeing those SVN difs. > > However, it was difficult to discount the initial posting that I read > for a few reasons: > > * Recent decisions made by Sun management without community input > > * Sun's past actions within other projects they are directly > involved with > > I am relieved to hear that there is more to this than posted. Right. And there are still people learning about community engagement here. Fact is, given Sun's level of engagement with open source across the board and the fact it is being executed by people (at all levels) with little community experience, we are bound to screw up occasionally. My goal is to try to get to the matter as soon as I can. It would have helped greatly if Neil et al had written to [EMAIL PROTECTED] first rather than making the initial public salvo. > > Thank you Simon, for taking the time to verify and accurately report > on the situation using the appropriate connections you have available. > It continues to prove that there are some folks in Sun management have > the right perspective. I'm working on it. The combined forces of engineering management, PR, HR, legal and marketing create a context where it's tough to be nimble. In fact, I got tired of waiting for them and just started posting data, so there's every chance I am in for a roasting too...
