I think coming up with an "intent" for a large corporation (such as Sun) is probably difficult at best and ultimately lacking in much meaning, given that there are so many individuals involved. I also think the proof is in the pudding. Try out Solaris Express Developer Edition (http://developers.sun.com/sxde/). Install it on ordinary consumer-grade PC hardware. Use the Windows-compatible OpenOffice suite to edit regular PC documents. Use all the usual open source tools (Firefox, Thunderbird) you're probably already familiar with. If possible, participate in a few of the community groups on opensolaris.org in order to see where the work is going in the future. In particular, you may want to check out a local user group in order to talk with other users in your local area: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/advocacy/usergroups/ug-leaders/ ... and then decide for yourself whether it fits your needs. If so, then great, and welcome aboard! -- James Carlson, Solaris Networking <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun Microsystems / 35 Network Drive 71.232W Vox +1 781 442 2084 MS UBUR02-212 / Burlington MA 01803-2757 42.496N Fax +1 781 442 1677 _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
