I don't think there's any clean and simple answer to this question.

First of all, OpenSolaris is just a code base. There are several
distributions based on it, and they're all different. Some are
closely compatible with Solaris 10, but others are radically
different, so you do have to specify a distribution.

I'll assume you mean the "Solaris Express" distribution. The current
release under development, Nevada, is being run as a Minor release,
which means that if we were to somehow cut a release of Solaris from
it today, it'd have to be something like "Solaris 11" (or some
marketing terms to that effect). In the past, we've always guaranteed
upward compatibility of applications, so that you can run your old
binaries on new systems with a guarantee that it'll work right. I'd
normally expect such a release to be given the same guarantee, but
that's a business and marketing decision, not technical.

However, Nevada is a moving target. From build to build, there are
incompatible changes. It's not complete, and there's no such
compatibility guarantee offered (if there were, it'd probably have to
be reoffered every two weeks).

So, I think the right answer is that we're engineering changes into
Nevada that meet the goals you're asking about, but that you're
looking at a snapshot in time of that work, and may not necessarily
see what you're expecting.

Or for a shorter answer: "yes."
