Yes! Indeed, I would argue that Solaris is the OS with the most mature and scalable MT implementation - period.

Here are just a few of the Solaris multithreads milestones ...

multithreaded kernel - Solaris 2.0, Jul 1992
user threads library - Solaris 2.2, May 1993
Pthreads library - Solaris 2.5, Nov 1995
new optional 1:1 thread model - Solaris 8, Feb 2000
old MxN thread model retired - Solaris 9
Unified Process Model (i.e. threads a first class citizens in libc etc) - Solaris 10

OpenSolaris inherits all of this heritage and pedigree.

OpenSolaris on the OpenSPARC T1 processor is "a marriage made in heaven".

Hi everybody,
I am new in Solaris so the question may seem naive. Does
opensolaris -at least the latest release- exploits the benefits from the T1
opensparc processor?

   Cheers,
         Theo.
