I haven't yet tried the poweroff command, though I've used the other one you 
mentioned but then
as a reboot '6'.
What is actually the difference between an 'init 5' and 'shutdown -i 5 -g 0 -y'?
I thought for a desktop home computer the 'init' command is sufficient.
