Two farmers : The first farmer listened carefully to his father and his grandfather. He carefully learned how to till the soil and how to care for the land. He planted a crop of fruit trees that would, over time, bear a good crop of pears. This was working well and he added another orchard of oranges and then, over time, apples. He carefully learned to master his trade as a farmer and he operated as a professional would. From time to time there were problems, a bees nest here, a gopher family living at the base of a tree over there. These were dealt with in a timely manner and he bore a good crop. In time he taught his sons how to till the fields and to care for the land. His crops were strong from generation to generation. Another farmer saw the first farmer and wanted his success. He had no formal training and only cared to get something done fast. He cared not for the land nor for the people that would buy the fruit. His trees were weak and they bore a weak and sickly fruit which he sold to the poorest of people. With every wind and gale his trees would shatter and break under the strain of the world. Every form of pestilence attacked his trees and he had no real planning to deal with such things. This farmer spent all of his days running to and fro madly trying to fix his sick orchards and the poor people were sick from his fruit. The first farmer, seeing the plight of the people, decided that he should give away his good strong crops to the people. For free. Asking only that they come to his crops and learn the ways of the masters. How to till the fields and how to care for the land. - Dennis Clarke http://www.blastwave.org ps: yes, I wrote it from my heart and this is how I see things. _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
