Not 100% sure about 32-bit mode, since I have a 64-bit guest running
under VMware Fusion. But I only saw one easily fixable problem that
prevented VMware tools installing. Specifically:

PROBLEM:
Unable to copy the source file
    /usr/lib/vmware-tools/configurator/autostart-vmware-user.sh
    to the destination file
    /usr/dt/config/Xsession.d/9999.autostart-vmware-user.sh.

CAUSE:
VMware not knowing there is no CDE in this OpenSolaris release.
    See http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=87.

SOLUTION:
    mkdir -p /usr/dt/config/Xsession.d
    ... then re-run the installer.

Once the tools install successfully, there may be a second downstream
problem whereby the display is much larger then expected, and too large
for the host screen. I thought there was a bug open on this, but can't
find it.

Hugh.
