Yes, the screensaver kicked in...might be having problems coming out, not sure. You can try ctrl-alt-backspace to kill and restart X. Disable the screensaver so it doesn't kick in. The other possibility is that you have a BIOS setting that will shut the display off, but doesn't come back to the system.
