I have trimmed my test program further and now dbx keeps telling me I have an 
rua error in strerror_r.  It's a simple C/C++ library call and I couldn't 
figure out why it has an rua error.  I temporarily commented out the strerror_r 
call and I still get the hang as shown in the stack trace in my previous post.  
I have tried watchmalloc and tha (thread analyzer) and they have failed to 
highlight any problem in my code.  What even puzzles me more is the same test 
program works happily on AIX, HP-UX PA-RISC and HP-UX Itanium.  Unfortunately, 
I don't have a SPARC environment with the same versions of Solaris and Sun 
Studio to try my test program on.
