If you are installing opensolaris from a cd onto an x86 system the default user login is set to "jack" and the password "opensolaris" will allow you to use the "su" command as root from the live-cd. Alternatively, you can set your own password for "root" (ie superuser) for use later on the post-install system, if memory serves, during one of the install screens.
