Don't take this personally, but I strongly disagree. This so called diversity is the main reason GNU/Linux as a brand and platform for ISVs is pretty much useless these days. Wheel reinvention, incompatible packaging, different tools, etc. Those are the reasons that drove me away from Linux. I hope those using just the solaris kernel with all the GNU stuff will have the guts to drop the Solaris brand or SUN should evaluate putting some strong guidelines in place for what is supposed to be called Solaris.
