That's pretty scary.  You might want to update that software.

That sounds like a DNS configuration error.

Do you have 'hosts' and 'ipnodes' set to 'files dns' in
/etc/nsswitch.conf?  If not, then do this:

        # cp /etc/nsswitch.dns /etc/nsswitch.conf

Do you have DNS server addresses from your ISP configured in
/etc/resolv.conf?  If not, then you'll need to do that.
