I just put one together with Fedora Core 9 (x86), 4 GB RAM (overkill), Dual core Athlon, 3/4 TB disk and MythTV. See www.mythtv.org and ivtvdriver.org as examples of what can be accomplished on x86 hardware with Linux or FreeBSD.
