Lacking any specific venue for those who run mirrors of the
OpenSolaris bits, I have a question for those who do.

I run a mirror of the OpenSolaris ISOs at http://os.elemental.org/ and
since setting it up for the community to use, I've noticed a huge
amount of connections from a particular IP range - 222.129/14. Once a
day on average I see my server get inundated with a huge amount of
requests (200+ concurrent) for the ISOs from this IP range. Some of
the connections download the ISOs in full, some only partially before
disconnecting and then reconnecting. The process repeats itself for a
few hours and then goes away.

The user-agent given by these HTTP clients is a bit suspect - they try
to pass themselves off as MSIE on Windows XP, but lack any of the
hotfix numbers and other info one would expect to see in a typical,
real, connection from MSIE, so this stuff seems spoofed.

Have any other OpenSolaris ISO mirror maintainers seen similar
happenings? Of the vhosts I run, it's only this one that sees this
sort of tomfoolery, and I had not seen it prior to offering this
public mirror. I've resorted to ipfiltering the entire /14, so the
problem is "solved" for at least the time-being.

/dale
