Well, to make good "Jambalaya" between GNU and Solaris commands takes a bit of
time and resources. Between the command sets, and libraries, we have
several tracks to review dealing with AT&T SVSVR4, BSD, GNU and other variants.
There was a project related to porting the GNU-userland over to OpenSolaris as
well as the Blastwave project in which we ported the GNU commands to Solaris 8
a few years ago. I can say that the GNU commands have worked
for what we needed back then so would be a good starting point where
legacy Solaris core commands didn't suffice (due to updates or compatibility
issues).
